Awkwafina
Awkwafina began as a American rapper and singer, making sly songs that addressed issues such as racial and sexual identity with a comedic twist. In the years before she stepped to Hollywood her career, she had the opportunity to perform a variety of tracks. Nora Lum, born in Forest Hills Queens to Chinese and Korean immigrants, was her first music experience. She performed on the trumpet. After classical and Jazz training her interest in hip-hop grew when she was an teen. While at school, she majored in journalism, and women's studies in college even taking classes in Mandarin in Beijing during a brief time. However, it wasn't until she graduated that she shifted her focus towards music. In 2012 her track My Vag a response to Mickey Avalon's My Dick found viral success across the Internet and was later released on her debut album Yellow Ranger in 2014. This album also featured popular hits that went viral, such as body-positive Queef or winking hometown tour New York Bitche$. The track that was the last one to be linked directly to Awkwafina's NYC travel guide, published in 2015. After having a great career as a performer and songwriter, she chose to assume the role of an actor. Along with early series like Girl Code, Tawk and Bad Rap she also appeared in films like Neighbors and Storks. Her breakout performances included Dude Ocean's 8, as well as Crazy Rich Asians. She released the EP, In Fina We Trust in June of the year.
